acrylic + vinyl decal on canvas, 20x29x4", 2019

In my recent work I have been using two layers to hold a tension between the pure and crisp digital image in front and its interruption and imitation in the rough expressionistic paintings underneath. In “Iconic”, I liked the “distressed” outcome that came from playing with the sliced up vinyl decal. The linear pattern through which the image is "filtered" is made of fingerprints and/or city-maps, which I use because of their indexical nature--they straddle their meaning and materiality simultaneously."
